When the Government reformed public service pension schemes in 2015, it introduced protections for older members. In December 2018, the Court of Appeal ruled that younger members had been discriminated against because the protections did not apply to them. The Government then agreed to make changes to remove the age discrimination.
This ruling is called the McCloud judgment. The changes are called the McCloud remedy.
The McCloud remedy came into force on 1st October 2023 and applies to the period from 1st April 2015.

Most members will not be affected as the vast majority are better off in the Career Average Scheme.
If we are already paying your pension, we will work out if your pension will increase. Most won't. But if yours does, we will apply the increase, including arrears.
If we aren't paying your pension yet, we will work out if your pension is due to increase and you'll automatically receive an addition to your pension when you are due to take it.
